Type-approved — not a generic import
Most 'portable' charging cables sold online are not approved for use in Singapore. The Mercury 7 II is the only one that is. It carries LTA type approval, uses the universal Type 2 connector that fits every EV sold here, and delivers up to 7.4kW from a suitable socket.
It has built-in in-cable protection (an IC-CPD with residual-current and DC leakage protection) and comes with plug adaptors so you can charge at more than one location. There is nothing to mount and no fixed circuit to commit to — unplug it and take it with you.
Two honest caveats. LTA allows non-fixed chargers only in a restricted-access location — a private driveway or allocated private lot, not a shared or public bay. Where am I allowed to use a portable charger in Singapore?
LTA's guidance is that a charger which is not fixed in place may only be used somewhere with restricted access. In practice that means a private driveway or your own allocated lot, not a shared visitor bay or a public car park. We check your parking during the survey and tell you plainly if it does not qualify, before you commit to anything.
What socket and amperage does it need?
The Mercury 7 II needs a dedicated single-phase 32A supply — an industrial-style socket on its own protected circuit — to deliver its full 7.4kW. That dedicated supply is the setup we install and the one we recommend. We'll check what your property already has and advise on the safest arrangement in a free assessment.
Is it safe to use on a normal socket?
The Mercury 7 II is LTA type-approved and has built-in in-cable protection (an IC-CPD with residual-current and DC leakage protection). Safety also depends on what it is plugged into: charging draws a high load for hours at a time, so it belongs on a dedicated, correctly rated socket on its own protected circuit. For regular daily charging we recommend that dedicated supply, or a fixed wall charger.
Can I use it outdoors or in the rain?
The charger itself is designed for indoor and sheltered use, and outdoors the weak point is the supply it connects to. A dedicated outdoor socket must be weatherproof, shielded from rain and on an RCD-protected circuit — which is how we install one. If you need reliable covered outdoor charging, a weatherproof (IP65) fixed wall charger is the better choice.
How fast does it charge?
On its dedicated 32A supply the Mercury 7 II delivers up to 7.4kW — roughly 40km of range per hour, which fully charges most EVs overnight. A 60kWh battery takes about eight hours from low, so you plug in when you get home and it is ready by morning.
What warranty does it come with?
The Mercury 7 II comes with a complimentary first-year product warranty, with a second year available as a paid extension. We confirm the exact terms in writing with your quote — and as an independent installer we also provide local support and honest advice on getting the most out of it.
Is the Mercury 7 II really the only LTA type-approved portable charger?
Yes.
